What Is MK-677?
MK-677 (ibutamoren mesylate) is a non-peptide ghrelin receptor agonist that mimics the GH-releasing action of ghrelin. Unlike peptide-based GHRPs (ipamorelin, GHRP-2), MK-677 is orally bioavailable and has a half-life of approximately 24 hours — allowing once-daily oral dosing rather than daily injections.
It stimulates GH release via the same ghrelin receptor pathway as ipamorelin, with the primary practical advantages being oral administration and long duration of action. The primary trade-off compared to injectable GHRPs is slightly more pronounced appetite stimulation and water retention, particularly early in the protocol.
Advantages of MK-677
- +Oral — no injections
- +Once daily dosing
- +Long half-life, stable GH elevation
- +No injection site issues
Considerations
- —Appetite increase (common early)
- —Water retention in first weeks
- —Transient blood sugar elevation
- —Less pulsatile than injectable options
